Schofield & Sims 2016 School and International Catalogues now available
This year’s catalogue features a wide range of new and revised titles to help teachers, parents and tutors get to grips with the new curriculum.
First among these is a new edition of our bestselling Mental Arithmetic series, which has been carefully updated to meet the requirements of the new National Curriculum, whilst retaining the unique structure, variety and rigour of the original. As an added bonus, we have also taken the opportunity to freshen up the design of the series, which should come as good news to anyone who has ever struggled with the orange text in Mental Arithmetic Book 5!
As many of you will be aware, 2016 marks the year in which pupils across the country will be tested on the new National Curriculum for the first time. As such, there is a strong focus on revision and test practice in this year’s catalogue, in the form of new Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 Maths, Science and English revision guides and practice papers. Meticulously matched to the National Curriculum programmes of study and test frameworks, the new revision guides and practice papers are the perfect resource to help reinforce pupils’ understanding of what they have already learnt in school and gain experience in answering questions similar to those that will appear in the final tests.
For pupils preparing for 11+ examinations, we have two new reasoning series, Progress Papers in Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal Reasoning, both available in April. Following a similar topic-based approach as the existing Progress Papers in Mathematics and Progress Papers in English, the new Progress Papers in Reasoning provide a wealth of practice of core question types, including those set by CEM and GL, to help build confidence and diagnose key issues.
Another welcome addition to the 2016 catalogue is a brand new version of our popular Times Tables Practice series, available from March. Completely re-written to support the new National Curriculum, the books offer an engaging approach to learning times tables, employing a variety of themed activities to help children master essential multiplication facts, including the x11 and x12 times tables.
Last, but by no means least, is the The Complete Primary Dictionary, the ultimate primary school resource, featuring over 75,000 words, definitions and examples, alongside a wealth of additional information to enhance pupils’ cultural awareness and appreciation of the English language. Written by experienced lexicographer Michael Janes, the dictionary took over five years to write and is one of only a handful of completely new English dictionaries to have been published in the twenty-first century.
