Teach Primary review of A Time to Speak and a Time to Listen
A new review of the A Time to Speak and a Time to Listen poetry anthology and Teacher’s Guide has been featured on the Teach Primary website.
Happily, the reviewer John Dabell only has good things to say about the two books, including:
“The poems are a varied throng. Some are serious, designed to make you press the pause button and reflect. Others are dripping in description and paint glorious pictures for you to enjoy. A fair number cater for comedy, while others might just have you reaching for a box of tissues.”
"…a cracking teachers’ guide is available, packed full of practical and differentiated ideas about how to use each of the poems in the book."
"The teaching notes are a triumph because they really get you to examine the poems and so help pupils to breathe in the words and oxygenate their thinking. There are elastic and easy-to-facilitate speaking and listening activities, which include reading aloud, recitation and discussion."
And the final verdict? “There’s a time and a place for this book: in your classroom and used often”. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Don’t forget that Celia Warren is available for readings, performances and workshops in schools by arrangement. Please email harriet@schofieldandsims.co.uk if you would like to organise a poetry event with Celia at your school.
